Roof Ridge Tile Replacement: Targeted Solutions at the Appropriate Time
There are many components of a roof which help to protect your home from harsh elements. While common features include shingles, flashing and downspouts, we need to keep in mind that ridge tiles play a crucial role. Let us therefore take a quick look at the purpose of ridge tiles before summarising how we successfully tackled a recent project.
Ridge Tiles at a Glance
These types of tiles are located where two roof planes intersect. They can often be seen along peaks and ridge lines. As the name already suggests, the main purpose of these tiles is to prevent rain from penetrating the roof. They can also be beneficial in terms of energy savings, as well-maintained ridge tiles will help a home to retain more heat during the colder months of the year. Unfortunately, ridge tiles are exposed to harsh elements and even the most durable of materials will need to be replaced from time to time.
How will the team at High Design Roofing tackle such a task and what benefits can customers expect to enjoy? Let's use a past project as a realistic example.
A New Lease on Life
We were initially contacted by a customer who required an on-site consultation. After a brief examination, it became clear that the existing roof ridge tiles had indeed seen better days. They were quite old; many suffering from cracks and an accumulation of mould. We explained the situation to the property owner and recommended that these old tiles be replaced with more modern versions.
The preliminary process was rather straightforward. Each tile was removed in succession until the entire peak was exposed. This also gave our professionals the opportunity to examine for any underlying damage that might had occurred as a result of outdated ridge tiles. Thankfully, the structure itself was intact.
The final step involved the installation of new ridge tiles. We selected a colour and design that was similar to the existing shingles. Our team was therefore able to seamlessly blend these new tiles together with the older roofing shingles. In order to ensure that the ridge tiles remained firmly in place, we employed both concrete and mortar.
Although this project was relatively straightforward in terms of labour and overall completion times, the critical role of new ridge tiles cannot be denied. Not only did these improve the aesthetics of the roof itself, but they will provide years of protection against even the most inclement weather conditions.
